Open Day

Open Day

On Saturday 13th July the Pontypool Lodges are jointly holding an Open Day at Pontypool Masonic Hall, and using the Mon Light Blues Gazebo on the rugby ground of Pontypool Park, as part of the “Party In The Park” community event run by Torfaen CBC.

Our objective is to promote Freemasonry in Pontypool by talking to the public at the Gazebo, and inviting them to visit the Masonic Hall, where Brethren will talk with them and engage their interest in Freemasonry.

The Gazebo will be erected on the rugby ground , at a time to be confirmed between 8.30 and 9.30 am. The Hall will need to be open until late afternoon, and similarly Brethren will need to be at the Gazebo until late afternoon.

Brethren who are available to be at the Gazebo or at the Hall for a few hours on Saturday 13th July , are asked to let their WM’s know so that further arrangements can be made.

Contact (Worshipful Brother Martin Phillips) for further information.

Widows Son’s & Lifelites Charity

Widows Son’s & Lifelites Charity

The Widows Sons Bikers Association pledged to donate £20,000 to the Lifelites Charity over 4 years and have now hit that target in just 18 months. The Master Elect, Jonathan Davies and Senior Warden, David Coleman, of Henllys Lodge are active members of The Widows Sons Lodge and helped raise this donation.

“If ever there was a good cause this is it. We will continue to sponsor Lifelines for the work they do and we are well on our way to the next £20,000 already.” The Widows Sons Masonic Bikers Association has been a regular part of our masonic community for nearly 20 years with members spread across England and Wales.

Left to Right: Brother David Coleman and Master Elect of Henllys Lodge, Brother Jonathan Davies.

“The Widows Sons serve to raise money for charitable causes, raise Masonic awareness while attending public motorcycling events and support our regular Lodges in whatever capacity we are able.

Widows Sons chapters have helped to increase Masonic membership through our presence and visibility during public motorcycle events and rallies.

The goal of the association is to:

Introduce the pleasures of motorcycling to our Masonic Brothers

Raise Masonic Awareness in the world of motorcycling

Support our regular Masonic lodges through regular attendance and assisting with or attending lodge events.

While we wear identifying regalia, or patches, the Widows Sons are not a biker gang, MC or 1% Club, we do not wear “Back Patches” but do wear the Square and Compass, on our breasts, near to our hearts.
We are required to represent the fraternity in a positive light at all times.”

Charity C.D.

Charity C.D.

At Casnewydd Lodge Installation meeting, on Friday evening, Worshipful Brothers David Llewellyn and Kelvin Reddicliffe presented the Provincial Grand Master and the Provincial Charity Steward with a cheque for £5,185 from the sales of the Monmouthshire Charity Festival C.D. The events which lead to this creative collaboration can be found here…

L to R: Provincial Grand Master, Right Worshipful Richard G. Davies, W. Bro. David Llewellyn, W. Bro. Kelvin Reddicliffe and the Provincial Charity Steward, W. Bro. Julian Knight

Let me take this opportunity to express my very grateful thanks. A huge amount for the Festival but gained by a great deal of hard work selling the discs . That said , I believe those involved thoroughly enjoyed writing material and also the making of the Disc itself . All told absolutely fabulous ; very grateful !

Right Worshipful Richard G. Davies. Provincial Grand Master, Monmouthshire.

W. Bro. Dave Llewellyn wrote the lyrics for two of the songs on the C.D. and W. Bro. Kelvin Reddicliffe wrote the music to accompany them. They have just started work on a third CD with a lead song based around the  poem written by David – “Before we went green.” As the title suggests, the poem addresses an era before we went green. It is both poignant and amusing. The music track has already been created and the vocal track will be recorded next week. It will be a country and western style song.

They will be announcing and releasing their latest music CD shortly. Details of which will be posted here.

Blue Lamp Lodge Installation

Blue Lamp Lodge Installation

Thursday morning saw Very Worshipful Brother Chris Evans install Worshipful Brother Alan Richard (Dick) Smith as Worshipful Master of the Blue Lamp Lodge at Chepstow Masonic Centre. There were Brethren present from Monmouthshire and many other provinces, in excess of 90 Brethren, to witness V.W.Bro. Chris perform an outstanding ceremony of installation. The ceremony was followed by a hugely enjoyable festive board with many staying for several hours after the festive board to enjoy the company of their Brothers. The Lodge presented a cheque for £2024 towards the 2024 Charity Festival to the Provincial Grand Master, Right Worshipful Brother Richard G. Davies. Several Brethren from Pontypool were in attendance including of course V.W.Bro. Chris Evans.

Llantarnam Second Degree and Election

Congratulations to Bro David Wilsher on his passing to the second degree in Masonry. We were treated to an extended tools and explanation of the tracing board by Bro Wilshers, brother and father in law respectively, in exemplary style. This also marked the end of our current Worshipful Master’s year and saw W.Bro Richard Beaven elected as Master elect for September. With a wardens night, fraternal visit from Henllys Lodge, it was a very well attended and thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Kennard Lodge First Degree Ceremony

On a serene evening of April 30th, Kennard Lodge marked a significant milestone for one of it’s newest brethren.

We had the pleasure of welcoming Mr. Gareth David Morgan into our brotherhood as an Entered Apprentice, the first step on his journey in Freemasonry. Brother Gareth’s initiation is not merely a personal achievement but a communal celebration of-the values that Masonry holds dear our dedication to building oneself through Integrity, Friendship, Respect and Service.

Brother Morgan is incredibly excited to begin his journey and experience the fraternity and we look eagerly to his future.

Double Third

Double Third

Henllys Lodge, on Monday, performed a “Double Third” ceremony raising Brother Christopher Hale and Brother Raymond Han to the degree of Master Mason. There were a couple of last minute changes to the officers of the Lodge performing the ceremony, but they still performed a first class ceremony. The Lodge enjoyed the company of a good number of visitors who were all very complimentary regarding the ceremony. All the Brethren later enjoyed a fine festive board.

L to R: Brothers, Chris Hallett, David Coleman, Raymond Han, Worshipful Master Alan Clayton, Brothers Chris Hale, Jonathan Davies and Craig Brown.
