Freemasonry is one of the oldest fraternal and charitable organisations in the world. It is open to men over 18 years of age from all backgrounds cultures and religions. It is founded on the principles of integrity, friendship, charity and respect. Making good men better men through the practice of these principles. Freemasonry in the UK raises millions of pounds every year for charities, contributing £51 million pound to deserving causes in 2020.

Pontypool Masonic Centre, in Trosnant Street, Pontypool has now been the home of Freemasonry in Pontypool for 100 years. Although the current Pontypool Masonic Centre is 100 years old, freemasonry has been an integral part of the Pontypool community since 1752 – over 270 years! It currently hosts 12 Masonic Lodges. The Centre’s lodges provide support to national and local charities, community organisation and individuals.

All Freemasons start in a Craft Lodge as initiates and later become Master Masons. They are then able to join other lodges which have their own unique ceremonies and history. With 12 lodges meeting there and numerous other events, the centre is a busy home to Freemasonry with events taking place most days. A typical lodge meeting consists of conducting the business of the lodge and ceremony, followed with a festive board and socialising. The centre is also made available to a number of local community groups, who are able to utilise the large function room and kitchen facilities.
